![]() ![]() Raccoons walk flat footed so their tracks are eerily similar to those of humans with an elongated hind foot and a forepaw resembling a hand. So a warm February day is a good time to track them in the snow. The species name, lotor, means washer, and the German name translates into “wash-bear.” Naturalist John Burroughs even described a raccoon as “that brief summary of a bear.” The common name may derive from an Algonquian word “arakun” meaning “he scratches with his hands.”ĭuring the coldest part of winter, raccoons take long naps but don’t hibernate. Contrary to popular belief, however, raccoons do not always wash food before eating. Sometimes they “douse” their food, looking absent-mindedly off into the distance while manipulating the tidbit with nimble paws. Raccoons (Procyon lotor) prefer to live near water and like to dabble in it. The raccoon calmly lifted the skunk’s tail and scarfed up the seeds. Service was great! I have no complaints here and found the people to be very nice and helpful. I DID like the small side of potato hash and the two small on-the-vine tomatoes that came with the omelete, but the toast was just so disappointing. Got the 3 egg omlete and credit where credit is due, the waiter let me choose 4 additions to the omelete even though the menu says to choose 3. I'd probably say just walk a few blocks to any well known food spot (it's NY!) and have a much better meal for less. ![]() ![]() Come for the service and environment if you're staying at the Conrad - but that's about it?
